Brighter Side of Sol (BSOS) is a psychedelic groove project based in Honolulu, Hawaii, blending electronic production with live instrumentation, global rhythms, and atmospheric psychedelia.
Formed in 2018 within the Honolulu music scene, Brighter Side of Sol has evolved into a solo DJ and live music performance experience built around The Hybrid Sessions, a blended format that brings together the energy of a live musician with the depth and journey of a DJ set and electronic production.
Driving house beats and tribal rhythms provide the foundation, while psychedelic guitar melodies, droning synthesizers, bongos, organic percussion, loops, and layered vocal textures continually reshape the groove. Ethnic vocals in multiple languages weave through the music as another instrument, adding an element of mystery, movement, and cultural depth.
Drawing from electronic, funk, dub, house, psychedelic rock, and global music, BSOS incorporates traditional sounds and rhythmic influences from India and Malaysia into a modern electronic framework. The result is music that moves between hypnotic trance like grooves, ethnic vocal textures, deep rhythmic passages, psychedelic guitar explorations, atmospheric synths, and spontaneous live elements that take the listeners on a journey through psychedelic sounscapes.
BSOS draws inspiration from artists including Thievery Corporation, Gramatik, Afro-Mystik, Mark Farina, Carl Cox, Neil Frances, SHY FX, Mr. Williamz, Miguel Migs, Fouk, and Aguava, while also taking cues from live musicians such as The Police, Santana, Radiohead, Khruangbin, Arc De Soleil, Balthvs, Hermanos Gutiérrez, and Leon Bridges. These influences converge into a sound that is not tied to a single genre or scene, but to a feeling: deep, rhythmic, psychedelic, organic, and built for movement.
At the heart of BSOS is the idea of bringing cultural memory into a modern dance-floor setting. Ancient rhythmic traditions, unfamiliar voices, live instrumentation, and psychedelic textures become part of the same musical language, creating an experience that feels simultaneously rooted and otherworldly.
Based in Honolulu, Brighter Side of Sol performs across Oahu and at music festivals, continually adapting the live set to the environment, the audience, and the moment. Each performance is an opportunity to explore a different intersection of electronic production and live musicianship, with the long-term goal of bringing The Hybrid Sessions to audiences around the world.
The next chapter begins at Lunar Vibes Music Festival on Oahu’s North Shore on October 17, followed by a performance in Oakland in mid-November.
